Have you ever considered starting your own website and make a blog? A blog is basically a website you set up and you log (weB-LOG) stories about whatever strikes your fancy, you can consider it a diary of sorts. You can have a family blog, a recipe blog, a blog for moms, or a health and wellness blog. Like I said, it really doesn’t matter. A blog can be so many different things to so many different people.
It never occurred to me to start a blog until a couple of mentors told me that I needed to start one because it was the lifeline to my business. So reluctantly I started one, having no clue what to do with it or how it was going to benefit me, but I always enjoy new experiences and challenges.
I started my blog almost a year ago and to date, I can see so many benefits of having a personal blog that I think all mommies should have one! Here are 10 great reasons why:
1. It can be very therapeutic. Sitting down and writing about your life, frustrations, or accomplishments can be very freeing. It can help you work through problems and realize the good in situations.
2. It is a great way of sharing your life. You can share as much or as little as you like, but if you want to blog about family adventures and share them with your extended family only, you can or you can share them with the whole world.
3. Everyone has an interesting story to be told. You think that because you are a mom you are pretty boring. I did too! But once I got to talking/writing I realized I wasn’t actually boring, I just had to burst out of my boring shell. It gave me back a certain spunk and zest for a great quality of life.
4. You will be helping others. By telling your stories, people are going to visit your blog who are like you, who have had the same experiences, and they will see how you got through them, and in turn, you will be helping better their lives. Even if it is only by giving them a daily laugh, you will be adding value to the world.
5. You can build a community. After a while of blogging you will notice “regulars” who visit your site. You may by friends with them elsewhere like Facebook or Twitter. Your “regulars” will become your friends and friends with each other and you will end up supporting each other and growing an online community around the values you have created through your blog.
6. You can let your personality shine. You don’t have to censor yourself. You don’t have to worry about offending anyone. You will attract readers who are like you and who you will mesh well with. However, there are some etiquette rules that I wrote about last week that you should keep in mind, but for the most part BE YOURSELF!
7. You will grow as an individual. Just as journaling helps you figure out who you are and the person you want to be through your writing, the same experience will happen through your blogging. Once you have done it for a while, it is fun to go back to your early posts and see how far you have come.
8. You can be a very powerful force for a cause near and dear to you. If you already have a built-in audience that visits your blog weekly, then when you want to help a charity or get the work out about a cause, all you have to do is post about it and you will have 100’s of people wanting to help you because you help them daily. Ahhh, the power of giving!
9. It can give a personality to your business. If you are a representative for an MLM company or you sell any products for that matter, a blog is a great way for you to show everyone that you have more to offer them than just your products you are trying to sell. Through your blog visitors will see you as a person and not a salesman. People like to buy from people, not over-the-top salespeople.
10. You can make money! Having a blog for money is one of my favorite reasons to have a blog. There are many different ways to make money from you blog, whether through products, ads, or simply recommending products, but the point is, it is a great way to earn a little extra money fairly easily.
So there you have it, my 10 reasons to start a blog. I hope I have inspired some of you to go out and get creative with it, but the main thing is to just have fun with it, it really can be a life-changing experience!

A great list. When you first begin to blog, it is like learning to ride a bike for the first time. If you keep at it, you start getting the hang of it. And that connection to the rest of the internet world, really helps SAHMs like me not feel too lonely. And yes, that money making part is good too
Hi Cori! Those are some great reasons to start a blog.
Many of those are the reason I started mine. It was one of the BEST decision I have made for my business.
Thanks for the great post Cori! Have a great day!
Everything you’ve said here is so true! I started writing in my journal ‘way back in Jan. ’68, when I was 14. It wasn’t much to speak of for the first year or so, but it’s so cool now to look back and see how my writing style developed after writing almost daily.
I stopped writing after my children started coming, because I felt guilty for taking the time to sit down and write. Back then, in ’82, all my writing was done by hand. It wasn’t till 2000 that I finally entered the computer age and in Dec. ’03, I started my first blog.
Even writing two or three times a week, adds up to a varied and interesting life when you look back after a while. And once you start writing, it’s so easy to find yourself LOOKING for and SEEING interesting little tidbits to write about. I love it!
